The Wishes Of Sultan Zafar by Borruen
CONCEPT:”Sultan Jahrin Al-Zafar, millenial ruler of the resplendent lands of Jahai, holder of the seven keys to heaven, lord of all land, sky and sea, built his empire up from the scorching sands of the Great Desert Makuun. He turned dust into gold, fire into water and death into life, plants rose on his footsteps, rivers flown from his eyes and earth was shaped at his will. But beneath the glory of the thousand-year old empire, the golden cities, the uncountable military victories and infinite riches, lies a dark story.  Zafar was a soldier who was wounded in a battle that took place almost one-thousand years ago, abandoned by his army and people, he strived for weeks in the desert, he was ready for his harsh fate when all of a sudden he had a vision. It was a masked creature with four dark wings, a giant red scythe and shadows in form of tentacles coming out of it’s red shining robe. It was Azralin, “The Anger”, a Djinn. The evil genie offered Zafar three wishes, Zafar wished eternal youth, eternal riches and infinite power, the djinn granted the wounded soldier what he wished for, cured his injuries and vanished like dust. Zafar then commanded the forces of nature and raised his palace from the very ground he stood on, the glorious empire ensued. Now, exactly a thousand years later, the evil and treacherous Djinn suddenly appeared before the Sultan to settle the old debt.”

Book jacket art for the novel by Robert A Heinlein.  Taking the idea that we will one day explore Jupiter or one of it’s many moons, in this case icy Ganymede. I was trying to give this painting an English Summer feel, as if we’d tried to change the moon yet not quite managed it somehow. A friend of mine was a farmer at the time, so I “borrowed” some of his cows to include in this painting.  by Danny Flynn
